Having opened in 1882, Ueno Zoo is the oldest in Japan. Located in Ueno Onshi Park, the zoo spans an area of about 14 hectares.

The zoo is divided into western and eastern sections, which are connected by Japan’s first monorail (now undergoing renovations).

This was the home of the first Panda brought to Japan, and today houses more than 400 animal species, more than any other Japanese zoo.
